Alm
ost like the turn of a new season, here comes the Billabong PRO.
The competition stands has been erected, and everybody is getting ready. I see a couple of guesthouses upgraded through the year, and even Dagama road got a fresh layer of tar a week or two ago. No doubt, the restuarants all over J-Bay will be the place of fun, laughter and good music and there will definately be a couple of layday safaris going down. Girls will be hanging out with bikini's on the beach... Eghm. No. They won't. It's winter and it's J-Bay, not France and not Brazil! We've got the wind and the waves. Welcome to J-Bay!
Then there is the wondering... Wondering who will take J-Bay this year around? Kelly? What about Jordy who's making a quick climb on the rankings ladder? Only way to find out is get over here and see what happens. Billabong will be running a live video feed as usual, and last year it was surprisingly fast enough that I could follow the heats from the office in one tab and race over there to take photos of important heats.
I am looking forward to this Billabong PRO 2009, because this is the first time that I will not be forced to sit in an office all day while the comp is running in my own town. Secondly, I look forward to taking some great photos of the event since this is the first time I will be using proper equipment. I doubt if I will take photos of every heat, but I will definately try to cover as much as possible. Otherwise, it's great to see the guys surf Supers that well, just like in the Xcel Showdown (Which was the best organized comp I ever saw btw.) and it gives enough inspiration and stoke to last me till next year. I saw after Jordy landed that air, some guys in J-Bay were attempting the same move with varied levels of success.
One
thing I do miss right now is the fact that have not surfed once since I got the
new camera, and that my main board, the 6.6 spider, still hasn't been
repaired. Working on that...
I'll see you out there. Thanks for those surfers that bought some photos off me from last Wednesday and I am glad you guys are stoked with it.
Anyways. It's fast becoming weekend, and I still have heaps of work to do. Over.
