J-Bay hasn't been this flat for a while, but you know the way Point is. Always a little wave on the rocks there. I call it salt on the rocks. I made the pilgrimage down to the beach with my wife, son and 600mm lens to be welcomed by sunshine, sand and no waves. By then we had walked quite a distance from the car, and I did not have the energy to carry the whole rig back.
So we just kept on walking from Supers to Point, where a couple of people were out in the small surf including entire families. Great thing that I was there to take photos of them all, and it was wonderful to meet some of the people that was super stoked that we have photos of them and their kids.
Not too bad for a day with no swell. Anyways, with all my grafting on websites, I missed the entire Occy Grom Comp yesterday. How's that?! The comp ran yesterday, and it seems it was not advertised really. The main website made no mention of it being on, and I hear there wasn't any photographers really covering the event. Major bummer for me, but hey, I can't be everywhere all the time!
In terms of swell, I think they'd better run the first couple of heats for the Billabong tomorrow and in the new competition format which will take less time. The swell is coming tomorrow and peaking on Tuesday and then dying off and that seems to be all that we are going to get until next week. I recall in 2007 we had cranking swell the week after everyone left. This year we had that perfect swell when the Supertubes Showdown ran. I am not very optimistic that J-Bay will deliver for this Billabong PRO, but I'm sure it's going to be pretty rippable on Monday and Tuesday. We just have to wait and see hey? I'll check you on the beach or otherwise in the water.
