Supers Showdown: possible go for Thursday

xcelPress release

For immediate release 15 June 2009

Jeffrey’s Bay – The first possible swell for the running of the Xcel Supertubes Showdown is just around the corner. Event organisers have been monitoring the swell and weather charts, and Thursday 18 June is showing good promise for some epic waves at Supertubes.

“The signs are looking good for Thursday, so we’re giving all the contestants a heads-up,” said event organizer Koffie Jacobs. “The requirements are simply cooking surf at Supers with offshore winds, and this could happen on Thursday. However, if it isn’t the day, we are going to sit tight and wait for the next swell to come.”
Sixteen local surfers have been invited to compete in the Xcel Supertubes Showdown.* The winner will receive an entry into the Von Zipper Wild Card  trials. He will also receive US$1000 cash and an R5000 Nixon watch, as well as DaKine product to the value of R1,500 and a Xcel wetsuit valued at R4,000. The event co-sponsors are DaKine, Von Zipper, Red Bull, Billabong, Nixon and Sector 9. Silver Bullet Productions will be filming the event.

Please contact Koffie Jacobs on 0845157026 to register for sms updates.

*The Supertubes Showdown is a specialty invitational surfing contest, and therefore participation shall be by invitation only. Contestants are selected by XCEL, and XCEL's decision is final. All rights reserved.
