If you don't know what this is about, just read the previous article titled "Healthy Localism And The Wisdom Of Father Frankie"
Jay, the unsuspecting individual who Frankie stared down, actually contacted me and gave me another side of the story. I do feel that I need to mention it.
Here's a part of what he had to say:
"We as surfers all know that every where in the world has its "locals", and I respect that in every way, My local break for your information is Shark Island, Sydney Australia, and there are some fierce locals here, with the wrong attitudes, much the same as J Bay. I on the other hand welcome anyone and everyone in the lineup, thats the way to earn respect in a lineup. Whether your a local or a visitor, abusing people and calling them names is ............ It was my first visit to J Bay and I was very lucky to score the waves that I did, I would have to agree that it is one of the best breaks in the world, at no time did I snake or drop in on anyone, so I think that Frankie obviously woke up on the wrong side of the bed that morning, and needed to vent his anger onto someone, that someone being me"
Certainly, the last thing we want is people to dread coming to J-bay because of a bad vibe in the water. My personal take on this is that all of us have a certain responsibility in the water and if some are slack, then everybody suffers. As far as the other wave gluttons are concerned that did snake and burn all day: Watch out! Frankie did tell me afterwards that he felt bad about the incident, and I know he has a good heart and just wants to surf like all of us and protect the lineup.
It's a good thing that we can speak about stuff like this, because these things are important to us.
My apologies to you, Jay. How's this?! Your name is Jay and you were surfing Jbay for the first time and it was eppic!
Otherwise, we were all stoked and surfed out and hopefully the next great swell is just on the horizon. Topic closed. Over.
