Supers

Yesterday, 24 April, I snapped out at Super Tubes for the first time, armed with my little Fuji Finepix and water housing, bright yellow fins and a flaming skull helmet courtesy of Mr. Bruce Gold. (How old is that helm anyway?) I only saw one familiar face and the rest of the people were those of you that wish you stay here. There was a big crowd in and out of the water, and I must say several people gazed at me and shook their heads as I made my way to he water. One guy had this very nice idea of me having a pouch with b-cards which I can hand out in the water. Lamination should do the thing? Maybe I must just change the card shape to be small enough to be tucked into a wet suit arm or leg? I am going to follow up on that one! Thanks.

Leaving on a Jet...er fibre optic

I still have to migrate about 15 websites including this one to a new server. It takes time, but I am getting the hang of it and those transfers I did so far went pretty seamless. (Heck if you want a proper website and hard core hosting, contact me!) In the mean time, I don't want to add new photos to this site, because it will result in me having to upload them and download the whole site backup and upload them again to the new server. We're talking 100MB plus, so let me see you do that if you can avoid it. That's bad bandwidth economy for you. C'mon click on read more, to read MORE!

Delayed updates and a few waves

I am sorry that I did not do much updating recently. I actually have quite a smooth work flow where I just hook up my camera to the laptop and the laptop to the website and the photos appear on the site. That's all wonderful, and it took me a few days to get it working. The punch line is that if my Internet connection goes off every ten minutes and does not stay on long enough to upload anything, then all my wonderful websites and software integrations means zip! So the solution. Get another ISP and DSL connection all together. I am switching to the new connection on 28 March, so things should be smooth sailing from there onwards.
I actually went surfing again and decided to leave the camera at home for a change on Thursday 22 March. We had some fun dusky waves, and I managed to stand up on a few. Great to see all the familiar faces in the water and share a wave now and then. We had wonderful off shores today, but there was almost no swell. Hope it gets better over the weekend.
I got my Rusty board back (dates from about 1982, shaped and signed by Mr. Priesendorfer himself and glassed by Moonlight CA), after several ding repairs since I had my "island incident" on the rocks at Point. (And the few not so sanded weekend sun cure repairs which they had to fix up as well) I almost repeated the island move with my other stick, but was clever enough to just stand up and walk over the rocks as I realized I am about to be stranded. We all have our Kook moments, don't we?
Don't tell me you have always been duck diving and paddling into the raging sea with such finesse! You also looked like a starfish as you made your way over the rocks after a 3 hour session where you did not catch one wave, and you have the scars to show it!
Surfing is not for the faint hearted!

Surfing the Web

This website is about 3 weeks old, and I was curious to see where it shows up on the net because it takes some time for the Search Engines to propagate etc. I was delighted to find the following link ranking number one in my search: http://actionsport.tv/wordpress/home-of-the-perfect-wave/

Thanks to the guys at http://www.actionsport.tv

Some Saturday thoughts

I don't know about you, but I have not been in the water since Tuesday afternoon. I was sort of giving surf lessons on the main beach to a friend of mine, (Not like I am really that good myself) and lost a fin on the sand which I repaired poorly in lunch. We were just riding foamies and I demonstrated to him how to duck dive and stand up etc. He got the hang of it quickly and almost stood up. Like somebody noted, we all had our first day of surfing and looked stupid.

Many people visited the website since last week and I see the large photos are really eating some bandwidth, so I am looking at making the images smaller. That's all for now. If I get gap, I will go for a swim or a paddle today, which ever comes first.

See you in the water!
