Two days ago, I was on the verge of driving all the way to E-Bay to photograph Travis Logie, Jordy and I am not sure who was the rest of the crew. They did hang around in J-Bay the days before, but we had horrible summer bummer swell absense. (Okay. Zigzag coined the summer - bummer phrase) I was pretty amped to get hold of them and do a shoot, so I managed to track them down after acouple of emails and phone calls. Eventually, I decided to bail on the idea because it's a long drive to E-Bay from J-Bay and back, and all that just for one shoot. I was pretty bummed. Hours later, my fate changed...

I managed to upload a couple of session thumbnail videos to youtube so that you can identify yourself and make orders.
Remember the images are provided in FX high res JPG - 10.2 mpxl and they are severely compressed for the video. I'll straighten horizons etc. when you make the actual orders. There are more to follow, but these are the ones that's uploaded already.
I'm sure you heard some news about a "teenager" that was attacked by a shark in Mozambique and "lost his arm and leg". I can't even remember where I heard it, but I told the story to several people at Supers in the lineup the last two days.
According to the real facts, the guy is in fact 27 years of age and the shark bit him three times. Once on his shoulder, then his hand as he fended it off and then again on his leg before he could make it to shore. He was airlifted to Richards Bay Hospital.
Full report on Zigzag's website.
Sory for spreading the wrong story. It's crazy how rumours can go viral, especially if the facts are wrong.
Supers was lank crowded yesterday and waves were pretty inconsistent, but I did manage to get one proper overhead wave in a 3 hour session! In total I maybe had 5 waves. We are wave starved and keep on getting these reports off epic classic waves somewhere in the St. Francis region which makes us even angrier. So much for not spreading rumours...
Hope you hade a great Chirstmas and that you will have a properous 2010 with heaps of stand up barrels and lines and lines of waves.
See you on the other side.
I used to do soaring, and there is an old saying often credited to Leonardo Da Vinci: "When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return."
Surfers and aviationist all share this common ground. Little did I know, that there is a third member to this passionate family.
There were practically no waves, and the water seemed clear. My wife and son was taking an afternoon nap, and I was busy with the graveyard shift of afternoon web develpment. You know, that one after lunch...
People regularly contact me to find out about surf trips or to get some local knowledge about the region and surf conditions etc.
Recently, I designed a logo and a blog layout for a company called J-Bay Surf Trips.
(Yes I actually do web development as well) We hooked up after we connected in the backline first and shared a couple of waves and a business relationshop grew out of that. Amazing how much business comes out of a lull. Jbaysurfcam.com will also partner with them by providing photographic services to their clients. (I use Nikon equipment, including a top of the range D3 and a 600mm F4 Prime Nikkor lens, so you are covered on the photographic side with the best the industry can offer.)
J-Bay Surftrips is a great asset in the Jeffreys Bay and surrounds, organising surf trips, safari’s, sightseeing tours and many other exciting stuff for those serious about the sport, surfing. The obvious questions would be:
“What and who are J-Bay Surftrips, what do they do, how can I become part, is it safe and reliable, would I get value for money?”
