INTERNATIONAL SURFERS TO JOIN PROTEST

“NO NUKE AT THYSPUNT” MARCH –  SATURDAY 17 JULY 2010 IN JEFFREYS BAY

International Pro-Surfers currently in Jeffreys Bay as part of the annual Billabong Pro, will take some time off from the waves to join the Thyspunt Alliance in a march to voice their protest about the proposed plan by ESKOM to build a Nuclear Power Station at Thyspunt, 20km west of Jeffreys Bay.

No Nukes campaign picks up momentum with march on 17 July

I was recently filming with a Brazil film crew, as they wore T-Shirts with No Nukes in J-Bay sprayed on it. The maker of the movie, Thomas Mulcaire lives not far from a Nuclear power station in Brazil and is very aware of the effects such a development has on nature. They wish to show their solidarity towards us in the struggle to stop nuke development and create an awareness on an international level.

The starring surfers wore the t-shirts as we surfed J-Bay as well as Oyster Bay and they are including the No Nukes Campaign in their movie that will air on international television. The boys were also treated by having dinner over at Cheron Kraak´s and she urged us all to be at the march.

This is the post on Supertubes Surfging Foundation´s facebook page:

"Permission has been granted by the Kouga Municipality to hold a “No Nuke at Thyspunt” march on the 17th July at 9.30 a.m. opposite Billabong Factory shop.

March to the Municipal building between 10.15 and 10.30 a.m. Please request that everybody wears yellow or black. Everybody can bring their SA flag and vuvuzelas and... make a noise!" Cheron Kraak

What I am up to

Well, what can I say. It´s silly season again. Only 10 days to the Billabong PRO and I am cruizing around town with a Brazo film crew. Very interesting.

Anti Nukes Demonstration this Sunday

No Nukes for J-Bay

YOU are called to take action!

If you are not already aware of this event then please make sure you attend and bring a friend with you. I fully endorse the action against a Nuclear power station and have taken some time to research the topic. The proposed power station is all about fat cats that will get a cut from the tenders and make something out of the construction and infrastructure. They don´t care about the environment, they don´t care about our waves, they don´t care about tourism. The only thing they care about is self enrichment on the short term without worrying about the impact on nature, the community, fishing industry or anything else. J-Bay delivers some surf for wave starved desperados like me

What a day in the life of a web developing surf photographer and father. (Just a footnote: I have found somebody that wants to sell a water housing setup that is perfect for my current camera rig and I am hoping to buy it. This will really complete my camera rig, apart from maybe another body and a lens or two. Hold thumbs for me.)

Today was youth day and a public holiday in South Africa for those of you that don´t know. I spent the biggest part of the morning in a place called Funky Frogs.
