Some of you may have seen me sneaking around the Eastern Cape and Garden route during the last two weeks of January, stalking a bunch of oddly dressed, injured and overly tired looking students. I have in fact been filming a documentary of the Surfmasters, VMC and DMC students while on Orientation as they call it. (Basically an army style bootcamp, except for the guns but complete with tar poles, barrels, backpacks and tires. Add a dash of PT sessions in the dunes and walking distances like from Kabeljouws to St. Francis in one day and not taking baths for extended periods of time and then you get the idea. ) The movie will be released in March 2010 and there is definately some interesting footage in there.
On the homefront, as in J-Bay, our super groms, Mr. Sawyer and Mr. Lightfoot returned from the ISA world surfing champs where Steven went through to the quarter finals and Dylan fell out in one of the earlier heats. This is the first time in a while that J-Bay surfers actually compete in another country, and we are proud of them! It will be great to catch up with them and they missed a couple of sweat swells while they were in NZ. (But NZ made up for that apparently.)
On that topic, I bought myself a new secondhand Sony Handycam with a mic input and manual focuss control, so I am not able to make little surf movies again. I think one of the first things I am going to do is making some interviews with Steven and Dylan to hear how they experienced the whole international compitition scene.
I must say, so far in 2010, we have not had a bad swell at all, and there's at least something to surf every week, even if the lull is three or four days long. I've been very ill since I came back from Orientation and have a VERY low voice the last couple of days. Right now I am frothing to surf again, but I need to wait for the body to come back on line.
Thanks for reading my blogs, and greet me when you see me on the beach or in town. If you want to book me for a session, then please give me a shout. My number is 083 521 5093. My rate for an hour session is R 350 at the moment and you get a DVD with your photos on in RAW and JPG for that. Some people advise me to ask more for my photos, so hurry up before I change my mind!
Okay. Nuf advertising. Laters.
