YOU are called to take action!
If you are not already aware of this event then please make sure you attend and bring a friend with you. I fully endorse the action against a Nuclear power station and have taken some time to research the topic. The proposed power station is all about fat cats that will get a cut from the tenders and make something out of the construction and infrastructure. They don´t care about the environment, they don´t care about our waves, they don´t care about tourism. The only thing they care about is self enrichment on the short term without worrying about the impact on nature, the community, fishing industry or anything else. Attached is email from Tanya Lategan:
Date: Sunday, 20 June 2010
Time: 12:00 - 13:00
Location: Supertubes beach
Description Bring: boards, wetsuits and a black or yellow t-shirt
Activity : create a "NO NUKES" sign out of all surfers and surfboards for a double page photo spread in the zigzag Everyone is invited - the more people, the more powerful the statement. Photo's will also be sent to international publications.
Even if you are not against nuclear power, you have to consider the impact on our environment and our way of life: over 6 million tons of sand to be pumped out to sea (this will affect the squid industry very seriously by interfering with spawning), roads to be built over a unique and moving dune system and precious wetlands, the pollution and congestion caused by an additional 1,300+ construction and transport vehicles on the road between PE and St Francis 24 hours a day for 7-9 years, the massive influx of job seekers - a projected 20,000 to 50,000 for the available 7,000 jobs during construction I can go on and on. Have a look on Eskom's website - they call it "Nuclear 1" and want to start construction in 2011.
See you at Supers.
