Support the No Nukes Campaign with a R 10 SMS

First of all, thanks for the kind words in the water today. Nice to know people actually read my blogs and follow the website. I had a late arvi session at Tubes and the waves were a little all over the place, but we all managed to keep the stoke levels up and I even had one wave with several little coverups.

Dylan and Toby was also out and it was fun to catch up a little. Toby is back from Germany where he made some waves on national TV surfing a standing wave in a river. (What else do you do if you live and surf J-Bay and visit Germany?!) Dylan was surfing a rather interesting board with a space age channel and it seemed to me like the shape really worked well for him.

For those of you who have not yet added your voice to the NO NUKES CAMPAIGN, now is the time for you to take action. An SMS system has been setup for people to donate towards the legal fees to oppose the construction of a Nuclear Powerplant at Thyspunt. SMS SUPERTUBES to 38665. They cost R 10 each and you can send more than one, because a single R 10 will about cover the staples in the scope of legal proceedings. Obviously, the more the better, so please tell your mates to put airtime where mouth is.

I for one, feel very strong about this whole thing. We have enough wind and sunshine in our country and there is not need to put up a Nuclear station and sacrifice natural resources, gamble the health of people and just make a bunch of fat cats rich.

Just as a thankyou, sending this SMS will put your name into a draw to win a weekend at African Perfection Guesthouse and a R 3000 Billabong clothing voucher.

For those who asked, we are still developing the Wavescape MK III website and most of my time goes into that. My two person company, Kalemanzi GFX, is also handling a couple other large projects so I have my hands full. One of these days I am going to mission a little and take some guys with me on quick day trips to do shoots. Just getting all my ducks in a row.

Feel free to book a quick photoshoot when you are in town. Conditions don´t need to be perfect, you just need to catch waves like you normally do and I will worry about the rest.

As always, I´ll see you in the water.

Hi there,
I am a second-year Chemical Engineering student at Stellenbosch and I have been living in Jeffreys Bay for the last 20 years and surfing Jeffreys Bay for the last 10. Even though I have a love for Supertubes and Tubes and Point just like any other local, I can't help but object agaianst the No Nuke Campaign. As I understand it the locals are concerned about the sand that is going to be kicked up into the ocean current while the dredging operations are taking place for the feed-pipes for the water cooling system of the power plant? This sounds like a ridiculous claim to me since the construction site is so far from Supers. The other thing is the environmental impact that the plant will have. Apart from initial damage done to the environment during construction operations, nuclear power is probably the most environmentally friendly source of electricity. Lastly, who are these "fat cats" that you mentioned in the above post?

Regards,
Sebastian Coetzee
