Well, nothing much to report. We had some kiff swell over Friday and Saturday last week, but it does not seem as history is going to repeat itself this weekend. (J-Bay has been plagued by a series of crime related incedents and even the brutal murder of one of the local business woman.) In the water, things are also interesting. Seems like some usual natural brutalities happend...
(Uhm, I have still not bought a new camera, but word has it that I will really soon do that and also get a custom surf water housing. I found people to repair my other two cameras that drowned, and resolved that I will never ever go in the water with a camera if it is not in a thick O - ring sealed fiber glass water housing.)
The sea went all misty and weird the last two days, and there were big shoals of fish in the bay. Some guys were spearfishing, and the dolphins were going bos as well.
On Wednesday I was hanging out with the Missus and lightee there by the lookout above Tubes, and I saw the familiar two white birds bobbing just behind the lineup.
I have known that the presence of those birds over there always coincided for me and others spotting a big shark or a sizable one. Not to disappoint the expectation , this freakin huge black object came closer to the surface. It was too small for a whale, and too big for a dolphin and it did not pause to breathe air. Definitely no mammal or reptile. (The Loch jbay monster!) Then it went away into the depths, and then it came back a minute later. The water was also troubled where it moved, and it displaced quite a bit of water. Since the waves were very small and the water was quite clear, it was easy to see. There was one lone guy out with his long board, barely managing to get up on the miniature waves at Tubes, totally unaware of the Unidentified Swimming Object hanging out in the neighborhood. Just to be sure I was not going nuts, I asked the guy who sat with his girlfriend in the car next to us, if they also saw it. He immediately confirmed it, since the girlfriend did not see it and was making fun of him.
I have heard that locals like Des Sawyer said there has been a big Johney for many years that hangs out in the bay. And why shouldn't he (or she) hang out. There's plenty of food, the bay is protected and I'm sure it's fun and games to be at the top of the food chain!
When the dolphins hang out in the bay, I'm sure they chase Johney away, but otherwise he's probably got the place wired.
Reminds me of the AA meeting the sharks had in Finding Nemo. "Look at me, I'm a flippen dolphin! Flip Flip Flip!"
