Webcam

A barter between http://www.jbaysurfcam.com, http://www.wavescape.co.za and http://www.midafricam.co.za resulted in the new webcam of Jeffreys Bay!

That's right. I am doing some tests and making a few changes, but during the next week, the new webcam image will be up. Just in time for winter.

So. Sunblock. We had a little swell somewhere last week. The swell direction was still a little East and the waves were quite weird. There was only three guys out at Supers, so I took the gap. I left home in such a hurry, that I never took my booties. I know booties ain't very high in the cool factor arena, but they've saved my footsoles on several occasions. Not to mention how they grip. 

It was quite sunny, and I thought it is a good idea to use factor 30 sunblock, since my skin is so sensitive (face, hands and alas...top of feet.) Needless to say, except for the fact that I never surfed for a whole week and that Supers was breaking very quickly, the sunblock soon ended up under my feet.  I did not put new wax on either, and that did not help a bit. Every wave I enventually pulled into at Supers, I stood up and then slipped and fell and then stood up and then ended in the impact zone. Getting hammered a few times and then going back to the take off spot. To no avail could I catch one solid open face wave in a whole two hours!! FRUSTRATION.COM

So eventually I gave up and paddled to Tubes, and then to Point. At Point it only dawned on me the fact that I was falling off my board and doing the splits all the time like an utter kook was the fact that I lubricated my surfboard very well with excess sunblock! The "aha"moment was when I did a textbook takeoff and already planned how I am going to rip the face to pieces, only to be rudely interrupted by a near catstrating split. Should've just gotten out and rewaxed long before that...

I can say that I have now surfed on anything, including a soap on a rope!
