I got a 500mm glass...

It is so like me to blurt everything out all the time, but I did manage to get hold of a 170 - 500mm Sigma APO in excellent condition to nearly complete my current kit.. The lady who I bought it from also do quite a bit of surf and kite surf photography, and she sold it for a very decent price.

Ya, I know it's not a R 90 000 Nikkor 600mm f4 VR lens, but for the price I got it for, it's a real bang for my buck. Just to set me at ease, she mailed me with a very clear shot of a KZN ripper called Dylan. She took it with my lens and an identical camera to mine.

I was so amped to go and test it out today, but the lighting wasn't all that great and I decided to rather go for a surf myself. I grafted all day on a couple of computers at a client in Humansdorp. It was my first surf since I waddled through the kelp on the Western side of Capetown last week, and I must say I am so blessed to live in Jeffreys Bay. The usual suspects were out, including the three groms that qualified for the Super Tubes Showdown. (Dylan Lightfoot, Remi Peterson, Steven Sawyer) I had a couple of waves, but most of them were closeouts. My last wave was much better, and I almost forgot how fast that section before car park gets.

Anyways, here's the pic Sarah sent me taken with my new lens and an identical cam as mine. (I cropped and compressed it, but you'll get the idea.) As you can see the lighting conditions were quite nice, and it's definitely mag quality. So if you come to J-bay and need a  photographer or you maybe plan to go on an eppic surf trip and need coverage, drop me a line. Lest I end up as a trigger happy wedding photographer or something!!
